Over many centuries, all over the world, thousands, and possibly millions, of relatively powerless purported witches have been accused of cruelty by influential practitioners of cruelty, and condemned as a consequence.

And many cruel persons, especially cruel women, have been described as witches when they should have more accurately been described as bullies and murderers.

But why is witchcraft associated with cruelty when its real practitioners have always used it for good in the world?

While black magic is thought to be entirely malevolent and white magic is though to be entirely benevolent, grey magic is often thought to be somewhat Machiavellian even when the ends are claimed to justify the means.

You may prefer to think about witches and (other) magicians in terms of fantasy, or in terms of the supernatural, or in terms of illusions, or in terms of sexual or romantic passion, or in terms of a Tasmanian island or a satirical novel or characters in stories mainly intended for the entertainment of children.

You may not think Grimms' Fairy Tales are particularly entertaining. 

Perhaps you prefer to think about another Tasmania island instead.

And when people attempt to escape from various forms of cruelty, they are often accused by the cruel of apostasy.

That is the hypocrisy.

How, then, is it possible to escape from cruelty and be free?

Perhaps it is possible by sailing ship.

The cruel so often prevent freedom and civility from happening.

In many situations, domineering persons attempt to coerce conformity to their own expectations, regardless of the wishes of anyone else.

How do you distinguish between domineering cultural practices and non-domineering ones?

Hubris is the cause of much unnecessary anxiety in the minds of its victims.

In most hierarchical organisations, matters of morality are often defined by hypocrites with excessive powers.  Such persons are obviously incompetent in the ethical expression of well-informed kindness.

Real witches avoid being associated with hierarchies of any sort.  Their job is to identify and support real leadership.
